His Stance on Online Casinos
There is little wonder why the online casino and poker gambling industries are
beginning to officially back Barack Obama as the next presidential candidate –
McCain just won’t commit to a certain position on the controversial issue. On
the other hand, Obama has previously displayed pro-poker tendencies and the
Democratic platform is generally more accepting of internet gambling. The
Republicans and Bush administration are responsible for the highly controversial
U.S. act that banned offshore online casinos, the UIGEA. And while McCain has
not entirely dismissed the internet gambling issue, he has firmly evaded giving
any position on the topic.
Recent attempts to ferret out information on McCain’s planned online casino
gambling policy have been met with offhanded comments designed to shift the
attention off of the issue. Specifically, McCain was recently able to continue
to avoid commenting on the topic by stating the well-known fact that internet
gambling restrictions are more in under Republican Jon Kyl’s domain – the
gambling public knows Kyl’s politics on the issue and now the question comes
down to whether or not he also supports the view that the U.S. should continue
to enforce the UIGEA’s protectionist legislation.
So while McCain remains wishy-washy on the online casino gambling issue, poker
players, professionals, and others in the industry have begun to officially
endorse Obama as the next U.S. president. McCain’s only positive comments on the
internet gambling issue have been to officially object to claims that internet
gambling prevalence has a direct and major effect on the land gambling industry
– a fact that is often used as a reason to continue the current ban on offshore
internet gambling companies. |
